Gilbert W. Whiteduck

Gilbert William Whiteduck from the Kitigan Zibi Anishinabeg community is the NDP candidate for the Pontiac- Kitigan Zibi riding.

Mr. Whiteduck has been active in the riding for many years and brings a wealth of experience. He holds a B.Ed., Hon. BSW, M.Ed., and a Certificate in Indigenous Law as well as an Honorary Doctorate Degree for his work in Education. He currently works as a certified therapist for individuals with mental health and substance use disorders and has deep experience in many areas, including health care, law, environment, and heritage issues as well as education.

Mr. Whiteduck has been very active as a volunteer working in the community and has sat on numerous Boards and Committees. He is the President of the Gatineau Valley Historical Society and co-founder of the Tenàgàdino Zibi Alliance. He supports the University of Ottawa’s Faculty of Common Law as a Knowledge Keeper and the School of Social Work at the University of Ottawa. Mr. Whiteduck has been School Principal, Director of Education, elected Band Council member and elected Chief of Kitigan Zibi Anishinabeg First Nation for seven years. As a member of the CISSS-O for three years in the early changes of the health reforms, he also has considerable knowledge of the challenges in health care. He actively participates with the Chelsea Reconciliation Committee and many other groups and organizations that have been reaching out about reconciliation. He also serves on the executive of the Quebec wing of the federal NDP.
