Roundtable on the Chalk River Nuclear Dump Site

On May 14, 2022, as part of a citizen roundtable, NDP Pontiac activists brought together key players to discuss the risks and issues related to the possible nuclear waste dump at the Chalk River laboratory. A few dozen citizens from the region joined together on the premises of the University of Quebec in Outaouais to discuss the issues related to such a project.

The panel brought together several experts to discuss the proposal of the Nuclear Safety Commission to approve this nuclear waste burial site. Mr. Alexandre Boulerice, NDP MP for Rosemont - La Petite-Patrie and Deputy Leader of the NDP, joined the citizens present for the discussion.

“We simply cannot run the risk of installing a dumping ground for such hazardous waste upstream of so many municipalities. The gamble that the planned facilities can be safe for hundreds of years is absurd. It is difficult to know the impact of the climate crisis in the next 10 years or who will be head of government in 5 years, how can we hope to control everything for hundreds of years?” -Denise Giroux
