The second speaker, Logan Vaillant, Director of the Tables des Aîné.e.s, which operates out of Cantley, spoke about the work his organization does with seniors. The demographic change in Quebec means that the population is aging but required services for seniors are not meeting the demand. He reminded us that the unavailability of affordable housing, lack of public transportation, and poor medical services geared to the needs of older people represent huge challenges for seniors in Pontiac.

With regards to housekeeping items, Catherine Emond was re-elected as President of NDP Pontiac and the executive elected a new member; Steve Tupper! Congratulations!

2023 AGM

The NDP riding association of the Pontiac held its general meeting at the Wakefield Community Centre on August 18th. Two inspiring guest speakers were invited.

Larry Rousseau, executive vice-president of the Canadian labour Congress spoke on the future of work in the Pontiac. He pointed out that the lack of infrastructure was an impediment to new large enterprise initiatives in the Pontiac. On the other hand, the Pontiac was favourable to more residents making the Pontiac their home as fibre optic networks were installed making it easier for people to work from home. The digital age is making the prospect of labour intensive enterprises less and less likely.
